Criminal defense attorney
Nigel Villanueva
“In every single case, the client needs to be apprised of everything. I’m here to give them my judgment and expertise, but ultimately everything comes down to their decision,” Criminal defense attorney Nigel Villanueva said when asked to describe his relationship with his client.
“I try to be as open to my clients as possible,” he said. “I run an open-door policy. I am happy to meet my clients in late hours, or on weekends. I want my clients to be able to simply walk into my office any time,” he said.
This level of respect and involvement flows naturally from his deep involvement in the community. He and his wife are South Bay natives, and their children attend local schools.
Villenueva opened his South Bay practice in 2004. He has represented clients in hundreds of complex cases, involving assault and battery, sex crimes, and narcotics violations. He is also an experienced attorney in personal injury cases.
He said the most satisfying part of his job, however, comes from representing children in juvenile court.
“Meeting up with kids who are 14 years old, locked up and separated from their parents…resolving those cases is important,” he said.

Plumbing
Bob and Marc Plumbing
Shortly after Daniel Viens started helping out at Bob and Marc Plumbing, in 1989, owner Bob Setterburg approached his mother with a business proposal. She had been Bob and Marc’s business manager for over a decade. Bob wanted to retire. Would she like to buy the Hawthorne business? He offered to stretch the payments out over 10 years.
Daniel’s mother accepted the offer and Daniel promptly got his contractor’s license. Over the ensuing years, he also earned contracting and sanitation licenses that qualified him to connect to LA County sewers. The company grew to 25 trucks at its peak during the 2000 construction boom. He still keeps 16 trucks busy. Daniel credits the steady referrals he receives to his company’s adherence to Christian principles in all phases of its work. Daniel’s mother is retired, but his wife Dena has stepped in to help run the business, along with sons Noah and Samuel.
