Water and prizes

Hermosans can demonstrate their commitment to water conservation and have a chance to win prizes by signing up online for the Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, sponsored by the Wyland Foundation, Mayor Peter Tucker announced.

Beginning Friday, April 1, residents can enter the contest by making water conservation pledges online at www.wylandfoundation.org/waterpledge. The contest ends April 30.

The nonprofit Wyland Foundation – founded by the artist responsible for the massive oceanic mural on an exterior wall of Redondo’s AES Power Plant — helps U.S. children and families discover the importance of healthy oceans and waterways. The foundation will decide the winner by determining which Southern California city has the most residents per capita making online water conservation pledges.

Residents in that city, who have made online pledges, will be eligible for prizes including 500 tickets to a special Los Angeles Angels game honoring the city, 100 four packs of tickets to Disneyland, and passes to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
