Point San Pedro
Dear ER:
I’m glad the litigation is finally over (“Redondo Council approves $2 million to spurned waterfront developer CenterCal,” ERNews March 24, 2023). I hope Redondo Beach learned a lesson and can move forward productively. Now we’re left with a dilapidated pier and piecemeal fixes. With the World Cup and Olympics coming to Los Angeles in the next few years Redondo has missed a golden opportunity to have a revitalized waterfront, and attract much needed revenue. Congrats, San Pedro. You will be the beneficiary of all that incoming money with your beautiful new waterfront.

Closing the door on 319
Dear ER:
I want to commend Steve Fulton on his beautifully written cover story about Manhattan Heights Library ( “319,” ER March 16, 2023). I am the daughter of the librarian, and I feel he really captured the spirit and the ultimate subversiveness of the library and how magical it was. Thank you for taking us on the journey from the first time you opened it to the final Allen wrench locking of 319’s door. Your storytelling is exquisite and it really moved me.

Completing the picture
Dear ER:
Thanks to reporter Mark McDermott for presenting a more complete picture of the Bruce’s Beach story, including the history of other Black families whose property was also taken by the City of Manhattan Beach, due to racially motivated eminent domain (“The apology: Mayo Steve Napolitano apologizes to the families of Bruce’s Beach,” ER March 23, 2023).

It’s the rider, not the e-bike
Dear ER:
E-bikes aren’t faster than regular bikes (“Redondo Beach city council takes first action on e-bikes,” ER March 23, 2023). Riders can just maintain speeds of 20 to 28 mph without working hard at it. I can easily hit those speeds on my regular bikes. Licensing them is one of the worst ideas. A two ton car can easily kill pedestrians going the speed limit, an e-bike can’t?

Casey’s voice lingers
Dear ER:
It was an honor being part of your amazing beautiful life Casey (“Casey found his voice, shared it for the disabled,” ER March 23, 2023). He left a big imprint on our hearts and lives.

Casey’s friends
Dear ER:
This community will miss this young man (“Casey found his voice, shared it for the disabled,” ER March 23, 2023). He brought so many together. He touched every single person who met him. Thank you for printing this wonderful tribute.
