Local writer and retired RUHS drama teacher Paul Collette will post his unpublished novels and novellas on a blog for fans to read and critique as he works on his new novella, The Charm Bracelet. Positive Mom book study
The Power of a Positive Mom group will meet on Jan. 22 at 3-4:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Redondo beach at 243 S. Broadway. Contact the church office at 310-372-8445 to register. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Help Redondo Beach beat cancer

The Cancer Support Community – Redondo Beach, a local nonprofit offering free support programs to cancer patients and their families is looking for votes for the opportunity to win a $50,000 grant as part of the Lester and Sue Smith Foundation’s Pink Well Challenge. The organization is one of the 30 finalists chosen from applicants throughout the country and is the only nonprofit selected from California, according to a press release. As part of the challenge, CSC-RB has created a short video about the organization that will appear on www.Pinkwell.org beginning Jan. 16. The organization that receives the most votes will receive the $50,000. Votes can be cast each day using Facebook, Twitter and valid email addresses. “This marks our 25th year of serving cancer patients and their loved ones free of charge,” said Judith Opdahl, CSC-RB executive director. “These funds will be a vital catalyst for our ongoing mission. Please support us by voting for our amazing video.”

Young Chef signs cookbook
Twist it Up Chef Jack WitherspoonChef Jack Witherspoon, 11, will be signing his new cookbook, Twist it Up, at HT Grill at 1701 S Catalina Ave on Jan. 22 from 4-7 p.m. He will also serve some of his own recipes. Visit pages, a bookstore in Manhattan Beach to find copies of his book. Proceeds from the book sales will benefit pediatric cancer research.
