Fiesta!

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and Church in Hermosa Beach will throw its annual fiesta Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29, with rides and games for all ages, live entertainment, authentic Mexican kitchen featuring homemade carne asada tacos and hand rolled taquitos.

For the first time, traditional Nurnberg Bratwurst will be served as well. A beer garden will feature ice cold beer and a wine tasting corner with California wines.

Carnival style games include a football toss, change board and a goldfish booth.

A raffle will have multiple payouts and a chance to win a $5,000 grand prize, and a silent auction will be held as well.

Fiesta hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Our Lady of Guadalupe has been serving the community for more than 50 years. In 2009 it became the first “solar parish” in the archdiocese, and now produces 100 percent of the energy it uses.

Emergency prep

The city’s Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission is surveying residents to assess their emergency preparedness.

The survey, which is conducted each year, can be found at saferhermosabeach.com. Organizers said all responses and personal information will be kept confidential. The last day to take the survey is May 16.

“Using this survey we have seen an increase in the number of emergency kits for home, work and vehicle. However, we have seen a decrease in the number of those who have taken CPR and first aid training within the past five years,” organizers said in a prepared statement.

They added that the survey “has provided a simple, comprehensive, and consistent tool to assess our preparedness, recognize our successes, and identify gaps where more work needs to be done.”
