Police Chase
Police officers ran down a man in a foot chase after he sideswiped two cars on a stolen motorcycle near the fire department.
Michael Dille, 39, of South Gate, was charged with vehicle theft and leaving the scene of an accident July 2 after police caught him in the 800 block of 17th Street. Dille’s bail was set at $50,000, and he was released after posting a ten percent bond.
Dille was driving a stolen motorcycle when he struck two parked cars on Pier and Ardmore avenues just after 5 p.m. Monday, Det. Mick Gaglia said in a press release.
After Dille unsuccessfully tried to restart the motorcycle, he fled on foot. Citizens and business owners pointed out to officers where Dille had run and helped officers locate him.
Sgt. Don Jones found Dille climbing over a residential fence and took him into custody at gunpoint, the press release said.
Free Foie Gras
After the state law banning foie gras went into effect July 1, Hot’s Kitchen has been serving a free side of the product with The Burger, which costs $13, to anyone who wants it. Chef Sean Chaney said, “We’re selling a lot more than before.” Hot’s Kitchen and geese breeders are challenging the law in court. Foie gras was banned because its production is considered inhumane by many, specifically force-feeding geese large amounts of pasta in order to disease the liver.
Disaster Readiness
Residents of Hermosa Beach are better informed to deal with a disaster than last year, according to a recent survey conducted by the city’s Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission. A hundred residents were questioned and the overall score increased .4 to 4.4 out of 10. More people have disaster kits in their home, up from 50 percent of respondents last year to 62 percent this year. The survey was taken online between March and June this year, said Ken Hartley, an EPAC commissioner.
Defibrillators Coming
The Hermosa Beach city council July 10 approved the installation of ten Automatic Extrenal Defibrillators throughout the city. The devices can be used by untrained individuals to resuscitate victims of cardiac arrest. The devices were purchased through private donations through the efforts of Ken Hartley, an emergency preparedness advisory commissioner. Fire Chief Dave Lantzer said he expects private donations to pay for the future maintenance of the devices as well. The AED’s will be located at the community center, Clark Field and Valley and View schools.
