Best of beach musicians sit in at Mama Liz Thanksgiving Dinner in Hermosa

[scrollGallery id = 529] Over 400 guests at the 29th Annual Mama Liz Thanksgiving Dinner enjoyed not only home cooked turkey, mashed potatoes and pies, but also performances by a dozen of the area’s finest musicians. Guests were welcomed at noon by the Dixieland sounds of pianist Jerry Rothschild, coronet player Bob White and tupa player Pete Kier. Closing out the afternoon was rock guitarist Mike Pinera, author of the ‘60s anthem “Ride, Captain, Ride.” Pinera’s former groups include Blues Image, Iron Butterfly, and Alice Cooper. Other recording artists included Jon T. Howard, the Bird Dogs (Fred Milani, Chuck Crowe and Steve Goyce), an unnamed guitarist from Italy and Abracadabra’s Jonathan Coleman, the dinner’s musical director.

Up and coming musicians who sat in included Jake Burman and the Phonetic Disaster’s David Kim and Ariana Evans. Ukelele player Jack Tracy, guitarist Joe Cipolla, Sabina Sandoval’s Free To Be Me Drum Circle and Balloonman Dennis Forel and Robert “Winkie the Clown” Taylor also performed.

Donna Dawick organized the volunteers and Misty Dawn gathered up over 40 cooked turkeys from fellow Prudential Realty Realtors. Sandpipers donated over 50 pies, including Mary Cooper’s unforgettable sugar cream pies. Manhattan Bread and Bagel brought the bread and bagels and Sandy and Michael decorated the Kiwanis Hall with balloons. The annual event is hosted by Easy Reader and the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
