A 34-foot Catalina sailboat crashed into the rocks outside the Redondo Beach harbor breakwall in high winds Thursday night.

The Fire Department towed the vessel off the rocks, but the boat had taken in more water than firefighters could pump out. As a result, it was relocated to a position just outside Joe’s Crab Shack, half-immersed. The sailboat was in the process of being removed Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson from the Redondo Beach Fire Department said three people were aboard when the sailboat began sinking, but all were  retrieved safely Thursday night. He said that to the department’s knowledge, no one was injured.

As of Friday afternoon, a half-sunk boat had not been removed from its position in front of Joe's Crab Shack. Photo
