Palos Verdes resident Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles County district attorney, easily won the Republican nomination for state attorney general, and South Bay resident Maren Elizabeth Nelson easily retained her position as a Superior Court judge in Tuesday’s election.
Termed-out South Bay Assemblyman Ted Lieu lost his quest for the Democratic nomination for the attorney general’s job.
Cooley pulled down 58 percent of the vote, hammering rivals John Eastman and Tom Harman, who polled 28 percent and 14 percent respectively. Nelson cruised to victory with 84 percent of the vote, leaving challenger Jim Garo Baklayan in the dust with 16 percent.
Lieu polled respectably, netting 11 percent of the vote in a seven-way race, but finished well behind winner Kamala Harris with 30 percent. ER
