With an unknown amount of provisional ballots yet to be counted, the razor thin two vote lead of city council candidate Carolyn Petty has evaporated. As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, her challenger, H. S. ‘Hany’ Fangary has taken a slim 24 vote lead for the third open council seat.
“… It is not over, but the update is definitely positive,” Fangary wrote on his Facebook wall Saturday. “Thanks to each of you for your help and support over the past few months during the campaign. I feel honored and humbled to have the help and support of so many people in our beautiful beach community.”
Petty, who was in the lead on election night but is now in fourth place, is unsure of the outcome.
“Even though there are some remaining ballots yet to be counted, statistically it is improbable that the vote would change,” wrote Petty. “I appreciate all of your support and encouragement. I am a better person for having done this and my life has been enriched by meeting so many wonderful Hermosa residents. To the candidates who won, I congratulate them in their victory and wish them great success on behalf of our city.”
Mayor Kit Bobko is still in fifth place, trailing Petty by 280. Newcomer Nanette Barragan continues to lead by 128 votes over Council member Jeff Duclos. According to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, the next results will be posted on Friday at 1 p.m. and the outcome will be finalized by November 25.ER
