Local surf photographer Gus McConnell’s shark hunt has captured regional attention, attracting a KTLA news team for a report late last night. McConnell paddled out at 44th Street in Manhattan Beach Monday after hearing reports a Great White had been spotted by surfers in shallow waters. He came within feet of the shark, paddling with one arm and holding his camera in the other.
“The surfers were looking at me like I was crazy, but the shark was acting docile,” he said. “If I reached down I could have grabbed his tail fin, but I didn’t want to push my luck.”
