Hill was the longtime manager of the Dewey Weber Surfboards shop in Hermosa Beach. He subsequently owned a flower shop in Redondo Beach for 15 years and then started a third career remodeling homes.

Wayne Rich, who shaped surfboards for Weber, said Hill was a born leader with an always upbeat attitude. Bobby Warcola remembered Rich as a friend whose loyalty never waivered.
Hill was a professional level surfer and a dominant figure for decades in the San Pedro line-up.
He developed his love affair with the ocean during his childhood in Avalon, on Catalina Island. He began surfing when he and his family moved back to the mainland and he attended Mira Costa High School.
Hill is survived by his mother Lenni and brothers Gregory of Dayton, Nevada and David, who lives in Lomita. ER
