Deep Roots has been a fixture at the corner of Sepulveda and Second Street for decades and has won Best of the Beach honors the past five straight years. The business came under the stewardship of Jon Bell – an employee of the shop during his days as a student at Mira Costa High School – back in 2010. Since then, he has made the nursery as much an informational resource for customers as it is a place to purchase plants. It’s also become recognized as a center for sustainable, drought-resistant native plants and a drop point for Community Supported Agriculture produce boxes provided by the South Central Farmers’ Cooperative.
