Volleyball: 2014 National Coach of the Year and 2015 California Coach of the year Tommy Chaffins will be having volleyball clinics for 2nd thru 8th grade boys and girls starting Tuesday, Apr. 12. El Camino Hall of Fame: Tickets are available for the 27th Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner Ceremony to be held Thurs., May 5 at 5:30 p.m at the Ayres Hotel, 14400 Hindry Ave., Hawthorne. Inductees include Tim Buzbee (football 1971-72), Jeff Cummins (football 1988-89), Richard De Armitt (football 1947-48), John Featherstone (coaching 1985-2015), Chloe Grimm (basketball 2004-05), Fritz Marohn (water polo, 1992-94), Hal Simonek (wrestling, 1957) and Harold Young (track & field, 2003-04). Running: The Spring Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk will take place Saturday, Apr. 23 at 8 a.m. Participants begin at the Hermosa Beach Pier travel in the sand to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Fundraising:  Mira Costa’s State Champion rugby team is one of eight teams nationwide to be invited to the US Rugby Nationals Tournament to be held May 19-21 in Charlotte, N.C. The goal is to reach $30,000 to cover travel costs and fees for all 25 players and their coaches/trainers. Donations are 501c3 tax deductible. Beach Volleyball: The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will host the Hermosa Beach Open featuring boys 14/16 and girls 10/12/14/15/16/18 divisions on Sunday, May 8 at Hermosa Beach. Entry fees are $65 per team. For more information and to register, visit aaubeach.org.

 

The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding three tournaments at the Hermosa Beach Pier on saturday, Apr. 16. Competition includes Campsurf Mens A, Campvolley Womens A and Coed AAA divisions. For more information, visit cbva.com.

 

Football: The Co-ed Flag Football on the Beach Thursday night league begins Thursday, Apr. 28 at 6 p.m. at 10th St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Games are played with two 20-minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks, non-contact, girl TDs worth double points. Registration offered as a team only and must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach. Cost is $265 per team with 10 person roster limit. Cycling: The 4th Annual Tour de Pier, a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the Manhattan Beach Pier, takes place Sunday, May 15. Five 50-minute sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. Whether riding solo or as a team, each bike requires a fundraising minimum of $750. For more information, visit tourdepier.org.

 

Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is accepting applications for its “Trosky Sixth Tool” $5,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 31. Applicants must reside within 10 miles of Beach City Baseball Academy’s facility in El Segundo and be a graduating 2016 high school senior. Final award is contingent upon applicant’s acceptance and attendance at an accredited college in the United States (university, four-year, or junior college), receipt of an offer to participate in that institution’s baseball program and letter of recommendation from their high school baseball coach. Triathlon: Registration is open for the 12th annual Redondo Beach Triathlon, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12 at the Veteran’s Park/Pier area in Redondo Beach. All of the proceeds go to Cheer for Children, a non-profit organization that gives seasonal parties and raises money for acutely ill children at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The USAT sanctioned scenic course event consists of a 1/2-mile swim, 6-mile bike, and 2-mile run. Space is limited to the first 600 entries. A non-competitive mini-sprint (half the distances) is also available. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division and the top two relay teams. Sprint fees are $65 (ages 13-19 and 65 and older), $80 (ages 20-64), $115 (relay). Mini-sprint fees are $6 and $85 for the relay. Add $5 after Mar. 31. For more information, visit rbtriathlon.com.
