Ballpark night

Hermosa Beach Little League and Salt Creek Grille present “Night at the Ballpark,” a fundraiser for the HBLL at Clark Field on Saturday, April 10. Food tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids, and they get you one huge Salt Creek Grille hamburger with fries, salad and a non-alcoholic beverage.

The preliminary round of a home run derby will be 4 to 5 p.m. An opening ceremony featuring Mayor Michael DiVirgilio will be 5 to 5:15 p.m., with dinner served from 5 to 7 p.m. Hermosa Beach Firefighters and police will play Hermosa Juniors in an exhibition softball game 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., and the home run derby finals will be 7 to 7:30 p.m.

Dog-eared books

The SPCA-LA will bring the child-loving dogs of the Paws to Read program to the local branch of the Los Angeles County Library, 550 Pier Ave., 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 10. The program provides a non-threatening place where children can read for the fun of it.

“There is no risk of being embarrassed by mispronounced words, slow reading skills or lack of comprehension skills when reading to a therapy dog,” organizers said.
