Moving Up

Former Manhattan Beach Fire Department fire engineer James Muth was recently promoted to the rank of captain after being named 2009’s firefighter of the year. Chief Scott Ferguson recognized Muth at last week’s City Council meeting, noting that his merit earned him the highly coveted position in a department where promotions are few and far between.

Muth came to the Manhattan Beach Fire Department in 1997 as a firefighter and paramedic and was promoted to engineer in 2002. He also serves as the department’s emergency services coordinator and lead nurse educator. Ferguson described Muth as a very active, solid member of the Fire Association Board.

“He plays fairly and that’s nice to see,” Ferguson said.

The discussion will be held at 7 p.m. at the library and will be based on his book, “A Return To Respect: Are Our Children Destroying Themselves?” For more information, contact Mandy Chandler at mandychandler@gmail.com.
