Operation Jack marathon

On Dec. 26, Citizens for Outdoor Recreation and Exercise (CORE) and Train 4 Autism will host the second annual Operation Jack marathon and half-marathon – 300 individuals are scheduled to run. Organizers anticipate that the event will raise $30,000, which will benefit Train 4 Autism and other autism charities. The marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. at Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo. Dentists offer free services

Manhattan Beach Dental Esthetics offered free teeth cleaning, fillings and extractions for 120 patients on Friday. An additional 140 were told they could come back at a later date for free services. “A lot of people need dental but it’s too expensive,” said Maria Acevedo, a woman in line waiting for dental care. “It’s a good present for Christmas.”
Emergency response training

The Community Emergency Response Team will be offering a course to train community members about how to take care of family, neighbors and the community in case of an emergency or a disaster. Topics that will be covered include disaster preparedness, terrorism, disaster medical care, fire suppression and extinguisher use and light search and rescue. The instructors are members of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department.

The classes will take place on Jan. 14, 21 and 28, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. $60 per participant, and this will include a backpack with emergency supplies, a CERT hard hat and vest, a photo identification badge, a manual, and a graduation certificate.
