Skate park feedback

The city is asking residents to fill out a survey on their preferences for a potential skate park.

In addition, a Skate Park Community Meeting will be held on Aug. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joslyn Community Center. Mr. Kanten Russell with Stantec’s Action Sport Team, who the city hired as a consultant on the project, will provide a “Skate Park 101” overview and facilitate break out discussions to receive community input on skate park location, size and design.

Surfing memoir book signing

New Yorker writer William Finegan will discuss and sign his new book, Barbarian Days, on July 31 at 7 p.m. at {pages} a bookstore. The book chronicles his lifelong surfing adventures around the world and friendships he made. Backpack drive

Journey of Faith Church is gathering backpacks and supplies for Love in the Name of Christ South Bay’s Back to School Backpack Drive. The beneficiaries are homeless and low-income children in the area. Dropoffs can be made Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through Sep. 5 at 1243 Artesia Blvd. in Manhattan Beach.
