About Town in Redondo Beach: Week of August 8
RUHS hosts yoga conference
This weekend, Aug. 9 to 11, over 600 people are expected to participate in the South Bay Yoga Conference at Redondo Union High School, a festival-style event that aims to raise awareness of yoga, wellness, and mindful living.
Run entirely by volunteers, the event will comprise free programs – including varying styles of yoga, stand-up paddling, Pilates, and meditation classes – and an outdoor marketplace, food and beverage area, music, and lectures. There will also be nutrition classes, fun programs like Slack Line Yoga and Hula Hoop Yoga.
Conference presenters include Valinda Cochella, who does free classes at the Redondo Beach Pier; Marian Clark with her Yoga for Surfers class; Olivia Kvitne, who teaches yoga to veterans around the country; and Suzy Nece, who owns Yoga Loft in Manhattan Beach and is travelling to Afghanistan this fall to conduct yoga classes for troops.
The yoga classes will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, the classes, music, entertainment, and marketplace will be open to the public.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Redondo Beach Unified School District.
