Manhattan Beach to honor victims
The City of Manhattan Beach, local youth baseball organizations, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will gather on Saturday for a dedication ceremony for the recently installed “Pearson-Wilhite-Stewart-Adenhart Commemorative Wall” at 1625 Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach.
Henry Pearson, 25, Courtney Stewart, 20, and Nick Adenhart, 22, were killed shortly after midnight on April 9, 2009 when the car in which they were riding was broadsided by a drunk driver who was driving on a suspended license from a prior drunk driving conviction. John Wilhite, then 24, was severely injured.
Adenhart was beginning his first season with the Angels, while friends Stewart, a former cheerleader, law student Pearson, and Wilhite, a former catcher for the CSF Titans, were all alumnae of Cal-State Fullerton nearby.
Pearson served as Mira Costa’s captain during the 1999-2002 seasons. Pearson and Wilhite both played on Manhattan Beach Little League and Pony League All-Star teams, before also attending Mira Costa and playing there.
The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 11, at 12:30 p.m. at 1625 Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach.
