Bay League earns two of top four spots in CIF boys tennis playoffs

Bay League champion Mira Costa earned the No. 3 seed in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 boys tennis championship, closely followed by league runner-up Peninsula who is seeded 4th.

Mira Costa (19-1) hosted Valencia in the opening round on Wednesday with the winner advancing to face the Beverly Hills-La Canada winner in the second round on Friday.

Peninsula (15-3) opened the playoffs at Brentwood with the winner taking on the Claremont-Valencia/Placentia victor on Friday.

Palos Verdes (9-7) is the third Bay League representative and traveled to Newbury Park in the opening round. The winner advances to play the Yorba Linda-Woodbridge winner on Friday.

Quarterfinals will be held Monday followed by the semifinals on Wednesday and the finals on Friday, May 18.

In Division 2, Pioneer League champion South Torrance (12-2) hosted Temple City with the winner taking on the victory between No. 1 Great Oak and Palm Springs on Friday.

West Torrance (11-8) opened at Crescenta Valley with the winner facing the ML King-Temecula Valley winner in the second round.
