Beach charity – Skechers Pier to Pier

Over 15,000 walkers filled The Strand between the Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach piers carrying signs for the Friendship Foundation and local schools on Sunday, Oct. 28. By the end of the day, the 10th Annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk had raised a record $2 million. The walk was founded in 2005 by Rabbi Yossi Mintz of the Jewish Community Center and Skechers CEO Michael Greenberg. It was modeled on a Friendship Circle founded by a Detroit  rabbi in 1994. Friendship Circles match developmentally disabled students with nondisabled classmates. To date, the Skechers walk has raised over $11 million. Sponsors include Nickelodeon and NBC4 Southern California.
