Running

Registration is open for the 32nd annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K to be held Sunday, Feb. 7, beginning at 7 a.m. with the popular costume judging contest. The 5K Run/Walk begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Baby Buggy 10K at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K at 8:30 a.m. Custom awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age category. All participants receive a custom race shirt and two free beers are available in the Asahi Beer Garden for those over 21 years of age (while supplies last). A Health Expo will be held at the Seaside Lagoon Saturday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on race day from 6 a.m. to noon. G.I. Joe, in conjunction with the City of Hermosa Beach, will hold the annual spring Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk Saturday, March 6, at 7 a.m. Approximately four miles, the sand course goes to the Manhattan Beach pier and back. Basketball

The HAX Basketball Academy begins its High School Training Tuesday. Sessions are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hangar Athletic Exchange, 3203 Jack Northrop Ave. in Hawthorne. Dave Miller, former New Orleans Hornets/NCAA basketball coach is hosting his Saturday Night Basketball Class through March 27, meeting from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Spectrum Athletic Club South Bay using a state of the art NBA training facility. Open to boys and girls ages 6-14, the camp’s primary goal is to teach fundamentals while combining physical activity, sportsmanship and positive values that produce life skills. Volleyball

Registration is ongoing for the United States Youth Volleyball League’s (USYVL) spring season. Open to boys and girls ages 7-15, the Hermosa Beach league is held at South Park and runs from April 12 through June 9. The coed format provides instruction in a safe, low-pressure environment that focuses on sportsmanship and teamwork. Fees are $145 through Mar. 15. Camps

Velocity Sports Performance in Redondo Beach is hosting a camp for all sport players in 4th – 8th grade who want to improve their speed and agility, develop explosive power and reduce their likelihood of injury. The camp features Velocity Sports Performance’s unique and proven version of Nike SPARQ training and is led by degreed and certified Performance Coaches. Sessions are held Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Feb. 18, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Cost is $199 for 10 sessions (2 days per week) or $119 for five sessions (1 day per week.). Beginning this week, Kurt Baker of Star Sports Performance will be hosting free speed, power and agility camps on Saturdays from 8:30-10 a.m. at Aviation Field to teach the lifts and movements used to build powerful, explosive and fast athletes. Baker holds a degree in exercise with over 25 years experience and is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USA Weightlifting Coach and a NIKE SPARQ Testing Coach. Space is limited. Baseball/Softball

Hermosa Beach Little League has partnered with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) for the Girls Softball Division of the league. ASA is a national sports organization and the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States by the United States Olympic Committee. The ASA has 83 local associations that organize leagues around the country. This season, Hermosa Beach joins neighbor Manhattan Beach as part of the ASA organization. Football

The Coed Flag Football on the Beach Sunday season kicks off Feb. 14 at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. The two-guy/two-girl teams will battle it out in a 7-week season followed by two weeks of playoffs. Registration is $265 and offered as a team only and may be made at the Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach or online at hermosabch.org. Registration is underway for the Beach Cities Sports Youth Flag Football Spring Season which will begin in March with Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday day games. Games are played at Mira Costa’s Waller Stadium, and pit kids of similar ages in competitive, fast-paced 8-on-8 games. The price is $250 per player, and includes a custom, individualized jersey (for the player to keep), football pant rental, mouth guard, and all field and insurance fees. Coaches are allowed to form their own teams so friends can play together. Registration ends Sunday. ER
