The boys volleyball team from Parras Middle School in Redondo Beach went undefeated to win the Spring 2010 Middle School Intramural Season. Under the guidance of Coaches Mike Ferris, Tino Gomez and Lauren Kirk, the squad competed against teams from Hermosa Valley, Adams Middle School, Chadwick, Palos Verdes Intermediate School, Miraleste and Ridgecrest. Volleyball

California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) holds tournaments the next two weekends with Men’s AA competition on Saturday, followed by Men’s B and Women’s A and open tournaments on Sunday. On Saturday, June 26, Men’s AA, B and Women’s A and Open tournaments will be held. All action begins at 9 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The City of Manhattan Beach hosts a Father’s Day beach volleyball tournament Sunday at 8 a.m. on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. For more information call 310-802-5448.

The 10th Annual EVP Hermosa Open begins at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at the Hermosa Beach Pier with top male and female teams from all over the country competing for a purse of $2,000. Aquatics

The International Surf Festival is quickly approaching and contestants who did not compete in the 2009 Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim must pass a 500-meter “check out” swim at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 10, 17 or 18 between 9-11 a.m. to qualify. For more information call 310-372-7189.

Baseball

Registration is available for South Bay Surf Summer Baseball Camps which run July through Aug. 20 at the El Camino College baseball field. Each camp is open to players, 7-14 years. They will be held Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Fee: $150. Directors are ECC assistant coaches Shane Schumaker and Tony Asaro with a staff of current and former college players and coaches. Velocity Sports Performance in Redondo Beach holds its Sports FUNdamental Movements camp for 1st – 3rd graders June 28 through July 1. Kids develop fundamental motor skills and coordination to improve athletic development and are introduced to various sports skills. AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Street in Manhattan Beach, hosts Open Ropes on Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. for kids and adults ages 8 and up. Participants bond while solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the course. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $20.

Running

Registration is available online through July 1 for the 17th Annual Village Runner Fourth of July 5K Run/Walk. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Village Runner, 1881-A Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach, and includes the Little Moon Firecracker Dash for kids. Cost is $25, kids’ dash $20. Add $5 after June 27. HAX Summer Basketball Camps is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 and run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Mon.-Fri. beginning June 28. Four week-long sessions are available. Dave Miller, former NBA/NCAA basketball coach, hosts his MVP Summer Basketball Camps July 12-16 and Aug. 2-6. Open to boys and girls ages 5-14, each camp runs from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. daily in the state of art NBA training facility at the Spectrum Athletic Club South Bay. The camp focuses on fundamentals including offensive and defensive drills, sportsmanship and positive values that produce life skills on and off the court.
