Beach Cities Sports

One of 28 teams, the Neon Vipers of the AYSO 18 BU10 Division completed their regular season with an undefeated record, advancing to compete in the AYSO Area 1-D Beach Cities League Tournament where they kept their perfect record intact. The Vipers will now have the opportunity to compete in the Section 1 Tournament in Riverside at the end of February. Hockey

Tickets are now on sale for the 3rd Annual Hush up with the Kings scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 6-10 p.m. at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. Kings players, as well as other celebrity guests, will be on hand as the top restaurants in the South Bay sample their food and drink. General admission tickets are $50 while VIP Tickets start at $100 each. VIP guests will each receive two tickets to the LA Kings vs. Minnesota Wild game on Feb. 24. All proceeds from Hush Up with the Kings will benefit the Kings Care Foundation (federal tax ID number 95-444-3065), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and recreational opportunities for youth throughout Greater Los Angeles. Baseball

Mira Costa will be holding its Alumni Baseball Game on Sunday, Feb. 13. The event is free for former players and includes a BBQ, alumni home run contest at noon followed by the game at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Cassidy Olson, Colson@manhattan.k12.ca.us.

Volleyball

Registration and volunteer positions now open for the United States youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Spring Season. The 8-week league in El Segundo at Washington Park and Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from April to June and is also looking for volunteer coaches, site directors and clinicians (volleyball instructors). Running

Registration is open for the 33rd annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K which will be held Sunday, Feb. 6 beginning at 7 a.m. with the popular costume judging contest. The 5K Run/Walk begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Baby Buggy 10K at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K at 8:30 a.m. Custom awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age category. All participants receive a custom race shirt and two free beers are available in the Asahi Beer Garden for those over 21 years of age (while supplies last). A Health Expo presented by Michelob Ultra will be held at the Seaside Lagoon Saturday Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on race day from 6 a.m. to noon. Fitness

GI Joe Winter Boot Camp runs through March 25 for ages 8 and up. Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions are available at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. at the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities. AdventurePlex will be holding a Ski Week AdventureCamp Monday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. Open for children ages 4-12, campers will enjoy fitness gaming, rock climbing, ropes course (ages 8 and up), arts and crafts, Adventure Room play, cooperative games on the Sports Court and more. Football

Registration is underway for the Beach Cities Sports Youth Flag Football Spring Season which will begin in March with Friday night, Saturday or Sunday games. The league consists of four divisions for players ages 6-13. Most games are played at Mira Costa’s Waller Stadium, pitting kids of similar ages in competitive, fast-paced 8-on-8 games. Cost is $250 per player. Registration ends January 31.

Co-Ed Flag Football on the Beach leagues kick off Sunday, Feb. 20 at 10th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Games are played with two 20 minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Registration offered as a team only and must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach prior to the first day of the league. Individuals must contact us to be placed on a team for registration. Cost is $265.00 per team for City Registration with an eight team minimum and 24 team maximum per league. 10 person roster limit. Leagues consist of a 7-week season with two weeks of playoffs. The Sunday league runs from February-April followed by the Wed.-Thurs. league from April-September.
