
Track and Field: In her third international competition representing Team USA, Allison Reaser, a 2010 El Segundo High School Alum, won the silver medal at the Pan American Combined Events Cup in the Heptathlon held in Ottawa, Canada June 17-18. The 23-year-old holds the No. 8 Heptathlon mark in the US and in scheduled to compete in the US Olympic Trials July 9-10 in Eugene, Ore.
Tennis: Redondo Beach’s Steve Johnson won his first ATP tour title at the Aegon Open in Nottingham, England on Sunday, June 26 with a 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 victory over Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas. The 26-year-old qualified to competing at Wimbledon.
Soccer: Mira Costa will be holding its Girls Summer Soccer Camp for players ages 6-12 Monday through Thursday, July 16-21 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Manhattan Village Soccer Field. Beach Volleyball: Redondo Union High School is well represented as three current or former Sea Hawks compete in the FIVB World Championships. Kyla Doig, of Hermosa Beach, and partner Jaden Whitmarsh (San Diego) qualified for the Main Draw in the U17 World Championship to be held July 13-17 in Cabo Frio, Brazil. Redondo Beach’s Lucas Lossone and partner Aidan Brown (Albuquerque, N.M.) earned a spot in the Main Draw in the U19 Championships to be held in Larnaka, Cyprus July 27-31. USC standout Abril Bustamante, of Redondo Beach, teamed with Hermosa Beach’s Zana Muno (UCLA) for a 17th-place finish at the U21 Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland in May.
The AAU will be holding the 23rd Girls National Championships in Hermosa Beach July 6-9 with 10/12/14/15/16/18 divisions competing. Swimming: Any contestant wanting to participate in the International Surf Festival’s Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim on Sunday, Aug. 7 who did not complete the 2015 swim must register for the swim on-line and then pass a 500-meter “check out” swim.  Swim “check outs” will be held at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 16, 23 and 24 from 9 – 11 a.m.  Decisions of Lifeguards at “check out” are final.
