Beach Cities Sports: Beach tennis, cycling, football and more

Beach Tennis: West Coast Beach Tennis will be holding its 6th annual Halloween Tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at 14th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Baseball: Beach City Baseball Academy (BCBA) is holding free batting sessions for children living with special needs. Every Saturday at 10 a.m., BCBA is offering unlimited one-on-one 30-minute batting sessions. “The goal of the session is not only to teach the child how to hit a baseball, but also to build confidence and have fun,” said Richard Murad, owner of BCBA. Among the staff coaches assigned to this program is El Segundo hometown hero and recent Baltimore Orioles draft pick Nigel Nootbaar. For more information, email info@beachcitybaseballacademy.com. Cycling:  The Dave Richardson Race Series, an annual event sponsored by the Redondo Beach-based South Bay Wheelmen, will hold its fifth event on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m. The time trial race will take place at the Palos Verdes Hill (to Domes). The Richardson series is a mix of criteriums, road races, and time trials. Only South Bay Wheelmen members can race and riders must have a United States Cycling Federation license to participate. Football: El Camino College continues its National Central Conference schedule with a home game against rival Harbor on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Redondo Union High School. The Warrior’s final home of the regular season will be against Mt. San Antonio on Sat. Nov. 8. All home games kick off at 4 p.m.

 

Running: Registration on ongoing for the annual GI Bootcamp Fall Pier 2 Pier Run/Walk held in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 a.m. Participants receive T-shirts, goodie bags and raffle prizes. First and second place male and female runners receive gift certificates to Village Runner stores. Beat the fastest time (male – 18:32, female – 22:42) and win $100. Cost is $35 per runner.
