“My clients aren’t just heads in a chair,” Elise Mitchell of Crush Salon said in explaining her popularity. “I do all kinds of hair, from weddings to guys. But I always listen to my clients and that leads to friendships.”
Mitchell moved to Hermosa Beach from Chicago six years ago to be a nanny. But she soon put her hair styling experience to work. She joined Crush several months ago because she liked the atmosphere established by owner Byron Cuellar.
When she’s not working, she’s traveling
“I work to travel,” she said.

Our readers lavished praise on Nail Garden for outstanding nail work in an atmosphere of indulgence. Yelp reviewer Noga M of Hermosa Beach summed it up: “By far this is the best nail salon in the South Bay. Everyone is always nice and accommodating.” Vanessa V of Redondo Beach praised meticulous and beautiful work, proving it with her selfie of her nails, adorned with a special-order cherry blossom design for the lunar new year. The salon offers mani-pedi treatments complete with massages for hands and arms or lower legs and feet, cuticle care and moisturizer, and nail prep and polish.
