Aquatics: The longest, most grueling race of the season, the 32-mile Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race starts at 6 a.m.

Bring the gym to the water with stand-up paddleboard yoga, stretching and core workouts. One-hour classes taught daily. Fundraisers: Torrance resident Adam Moine will be attempting to swim across the Catalina Channel on Tuesday in an effort to raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Beginning at 4 a.m. at Arrow Point on Catalina Island, Moine will swim with no wetsuit or fins with the destination of Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. Signet Marine of Redondo Beach is sponsoring Moine by providing a support boat and all associated costs so all donations will go directly to the nonprofit organization. Manhattan Beach Karate is seeking donations and corporate sponsorship to help send one of its athletes to Lodz, Poland, to participate in the IRFK World Traditional Karate Championships on Oct. 6-7. A fundraiser is being held to support Manhattan Beach snowboarder Indigo Monk in her dream of qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Volleyball: Volleyball Ventures hosts a Coed Doubles tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) hosts the California Cup State Championships at two venues Sat.-Sun., Sept. 1-2. At the Manhattan Beach Pier Men’s A, AA and Women’s Unrated, A and AA tournaments will be held Saturday followed by Men’s B, Coed A, Coed Open and Coed Unrated competitions on Sunday.

The California Cup Youth Championships will be held Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier for boys and girls 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions.

At Hermosa Beach, the Women’s Open will be held Saturday and the Men’s Open on Sunday. All tournaments start at 9 a.m. Fees are $42.50 per team. Visit www.cbva.com for more details.

Registration is open for the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) fall 2012 season in Hermosa Beach. The co-ed league is open to players of any level and consists of four age divisions: 7-8, 9-10, 11-2 and 13-15. Games are played Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at South Park beginning Sept. 10 and running through Oct. 29. Miscellaneous: The Redondo Athletic Association is seeking nominations for the Redondo Athletic Hall-of-Fame. The historical Inaugural Hall-of-Fame is slated for June 1, 2013. Nomination applications are available at redondoathleticassociation.org.

Cycling: The South Bay Wheelmen cycling club hosts a ride every Saturday at 9 a.m. Riders meet in the parking lot of the Catalina Coffee Company, 126 N. Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach. The moderately-paced ride is about 30 miles with some climbing. It regroups at several points so no one gets left behind. A number of South Bay Wheelmen who now race started out with us on this ride. Riders must be at least 12 years old and be on a road bike. On Sunday, Sept. 16 the Dave Richardson Race Series will be held. The event starts with a criterium and includes 11 races including road races and time trials. Racers must be a member of the South Bay Wheelmen and have a United States Cycling Federation license to participate. For more information, visit southbaywheelmen.org.

The Los Angeles Velodrome Racing Association, LAVRA, is in the midst of its 2012 race season at the Velo Sports Center, 18400 Avalon Blvd., Carson. Located at the Home Depot Center, the facility provides a safe and healthy environment to ride and is the only world-class indoor velodrome in North America, hosting athletes from all over the world. The Baxter Time Trial Series of bicycle races continues each Sunday through Sept. 30 on a course in Carson, near Torrance. Often called the “race of truth,” a time trial is a race against the clock. There are men’s and women’s categories for several different age groups. Racers are awarded points for placing and winners are announced at the end of the series. The Baxter Series is sponsored by the South Bay Wheelmen, a club for racers, aspiring racers and those who just love to ride their bikes. Participants in the Baxter races must be a club member and have a US Cycling Federation license, but membership and a one-day USCF license can both be obtained at the race. Fitness: Join the Center for Health & Fitness and the Blue Zone Project for a free 10-week Zumba® class that helps participants dance their way into shape with easy-to-follow moves that tone and sculpt the body. Sessions are held Tuesdays through Sept. 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Alta Vista Park, 801 Camino Real in Redondo Beach.

AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach, invites family members ages 5 and up to improve balance, strength and power on its 35-foot outdoor rock walls, which are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $8. Also available is a ropes course where groups of seven (ages 8 and up) start each half hour every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for the ropes course is $20; advance registration is recommended.
