Beach Cities Sports: Golf, volleyball and more

Golf: Tanner Stewart, of Hermosa Beach, shot a personal best 68 4-under-par to win the US Kids LA Tour Championship at Los Robles Golf Club in Thousand Oaks. The win helped him secure the Player of the Tour (11-year-old division) for the eight-event summer season. Stewart accrued 185.00 points to edge Torrance’s Matthew Ingram (179.50) earning a spot to compete in the 2016 US Kids World Championships in Pinehurst, N.C.

Beach Volleyball:  On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6, the CBVA Adult Cal Cup championships will be held. Saturday’s action is highlighted by Men’s and Women’s Open tournaments at Manhattan Beach with purses of $1,500. At Hermosa Beach, Men’s and Women’s Unrated, A and AA events will take place. On Sunday, Men’s B (Hermosa Beach) and Women’s B (Manhattan Beach) tournaments will be held. Smack Sportswear will be hosting the Patriot’s Day co-ed 4’s beach volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12 on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Festivities also include an apple pie eating contest, three-legged races and more. A portion of the proceeds benefits Tuesday’s Children, an organization dedicated to providing support for children and family impacted by 9/11. Smackfest Events and Magnum Venture Partners donates a portion of their monthly revenues to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. For more information, visit Smackfestevents.com.
Triathlon: Registration is open for the Day at the Beach Triathlon to be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 in Hermosa Beach. The event includes a 1/4 mile ocean swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. Fees are $110 (individual) and $165 (relay) through Sept. 15. Add $15 thereafter. For more information, visit dayatthebeachtri.com.
