“School House Rock” musical

The pop culture phenomenon “School House Rock” is coming to the Norris Theatre stage August 3-11. Based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970’s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, catchy songs, the musical follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher, who is watching TV when various crazy characters suddenly materialize from the set to show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. It is presented by the Norris Center’s Education Department. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays, as well a 2 p.m. show on Saturday, August 11. Curtains Up! Community Theatre presents “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” a fun, irreverent musical about J. Surfwirters seminar

Trona Interrupted fundraiser

Los Cancioneros Master Chorale auditions

Los Cancioneros Master Chorale, a mixed chorus of 70 voices, now entering its 64th consecutive season, will hold auditions for membership in Palos Verdes. All voices: soprano, alto, tenor and bass are invited to audition. A prerequisite for acceptance into the chorale is the ability to sight-read music. Singers must be eighteen or older. Singers accepted into the chorale will be required to attend rehearsals each Tuesday evening, September through June, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Torrance, and to perform in four concerts throughout the season at the James Armstrong Theater at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. The Crafter’s Circle

Palos Verdes Library District presents The Crafter’s Circle, which meets the 4th Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 28, 1 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Staff Lounge. The members are currently knitting and crocheting baby hats, scarves and blankets to donate to local charities. Visitors are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials, though some supplies may be available on site. Informal knitting and crocheting lessons are offered. Peninsula Seniors weekly lecture series

Join Peninsula Seniors at Hess Park, Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. On August 1, Ann Shaw, President of Peninsula Seniors, will talk on the future of the Seniors organization; August 8, Larry Wood, “Mr. Hot Wheels”, will discuss the creation and production of “Hot Wheels”, which were designed in 1969.
