Banning Museum seeks Volunteers

A Glimpse of Cuba Today – Its People and Places

PVP Branch of AAUW and The Palos Verdes Library will present Mary Drobny, well known art history teacher, speaking on the art and architecture of Havana, Cuba, 10 a.m. to noon. She will give a firsthand account of life in today’s Cuba; its people, its art, its music and the ways people cope within a world that has been off limits to us for over 50 years. Bayou Bash Fundraiser

 Peninsula Montessori annual Auction and Dinner Dance takes place 6 p.m. at the Trump National Golf Club, One Ocean Trails Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes. The event is presented by the Montessori Parents Association of the Peninsula Montessori School, Rancho Palos Verdes and Torrance campuses, and is open to the public. Norris Art Exhibit

 The Upstairs Gallery at the Norris Theatre will present “Dimensions and Directions in Color,” a special exhibit of paintings by local South Bay artist Sandra Chu, who paints under the name Sander, February 7 – March 18. The exhibit features a special collection of the artist’s abstract expressionistic style paintings. It is presented in conjunction with the Palos Verdes Art Center and viewings are available at every Norris Theatre performance and during regular box office hours. Annie Jr. at PVIS

Palos Verdes Intermediate School presents its annual production, Annie Jr.. Based on the popular Broadway musical Annie, Annie Jr., tells the story of a spunky, Depression-era orphan who is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage. Nature Hike– Bluff Cove

This wide open cove offers shoreline hiking, 4 – 6 p.m. down to a rocky beach and magnificent tide pools. This is a moderate walk. Reservations are not required. Wear comfortable shoes with good traction. In case of serious rain, the walk will be cancelled not rescheduled. Norris Valentine Ball Gala

The 21st annual Valentine Ball, “Symphony of the Sea,” benefiting the Norris Center for the Performing Arts, will be held at Terranea Resort. Pam Barrett and Jim Hill will receive the Kenneth T. Norris Jr. “Key to Our Heart” award during a special presentation. Bye Bye Birdie at the Norris

The original rock ‘n’ roll musical, “Bye Bye Birdie,” will light up the Norris Theatre stage for eight performances, Feb. 18-27. Join the docents from the Point Vicente Interpretive Center for their monthly hike at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park at 2:30 p.m. Tour the tide pools teaming with fascinating wildlife. The Palos Verdes Art Center will celebrate its 80th anniversary this year – 80 years of influencing generations of children, adults, and families making an impact in the community for the arts. The Art Center will continue to inspire individuals to celebrate, appreciate and create art with the Southern California Printmaking Exhibition. The exhibit opens January 28, 2011, and runs through April 24, 2011, in the Beckstrand,Walker and Norris Galleries at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 W. Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes.
