The First Annual South Bay Chess Championships will be held Sunday, Jan. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Elks Lodge at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach.
Co-sponsored by the Elks and Kiwanis Club, the event is for kids age 8-18, limited to 50 participants, who will play in 45-minute segments in the Lodge Room.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of five levels.

Breakfast, snacks, and lunch are provided to all players.
