Redondo Union’s Kristen Hamlin hurdles her way to Athlete of the Meet honors at 20th annual Mustang Relays

Redondo Unionโ€™s Kristen Hamlin was a four-time winner at the 20th Annual Mustang Relays on Saturday, earning the junior the Ed Austin Female Athlete of the Meet award.

Hamlin won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.05 seconds, the 300 hurdles (46.00) and was a member of the Sea Hawkโ€™s 4×100 (49.02) and 4×200 (1:44.61) winning relay teams.

Redondoโ€™s girls also won the 4×400 (4:04.77) and 4×800 (9:32.22) relays and placed second to Saugus in the Distance Medley with a time of 12:45.00.

Freshman Kaitlin Heri broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 1 inch on her third attempt to lead Redondo to a 1-4 finish in the event. Sara Curran placed second (10-6), Emma Parkinson finished third (10-6) and Cailin McMartin was fourth at 10-0.

Redondo finished 1-2 in the shot put with Tairyn Montgomery toss of 33-09.75 outdistancing Ashley Wells (29-07.25. Wells went on to capture the discus event with a throw of 97-05.00.

Sea Hawks Nicole Pederson placed second in the 1,600 (5:22.35) and Anastasia Chioda finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.56.

South Bay girls swept the long jump competition with El Segundoโ€™s Kristen Virkler (16-02 Redondoโ€™s Tairyn Montgomery (16-1) and West Torranceโ€™s Thea Abayan (16-0) taking top honors.

Host Mira Costa had its share of the spotlight with Kimi Markley capturing the girls triple jump at 35 feet. The Mustangs also won the girls 4×1600 relay with a time of 22:26.56 and finished third in the 4×100 (50.58) and Distance Medley (12:50.79).

Freshman Shante Robinson was runner-up in the 100 hurdles (15.59) and 300 hurdles (46.40) and Alison Bartak, who helped lead Mira Costaโ€™s girls basketball team to the State Regional playoffs, cleared 5 feet to place second in the high jump, just ahead of West Torranceโ€™s Nico Unverzagt.

Myan Elrington finished third in the long jump (32-10.50) behind runner-up Greta Studier of El Segundo (34-08.00) and the Mustangโ€™s Chelsea Tatum placed third in the shot put with a mark of 29-06.

In boys competition, Redondoโ€™s Dustin Herold (4:16.94) won the boys 1,600 race, the Sea Hawks won the 4×400 relay (3:31.49) and Palos Verdes captured the boys Distance Medley with a time of 10:21.69 outrunning Brea Olinda (10:22.30) and Redondo (10:27.29).

Redondoโ€™s boys relay teams finished second in the 4×200 (1:33.86) and 4×800 (8:13.66) and third in the 4×100 (43.47).

Sea Hawks with third-place finishes included Ryan Patrick in the 100 meters (11.340), Nicholas Wells in the 1,600 (4:18.87) and Ryan Keliher in the pole vault (14-00).

Mira Costaโ€™s Matt Wenner won the boys high jump (6-03) and P.J. Onusconich had two second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (15.73) and 300 hurdles (41.97).

El Segundoโ€™s Kristian Thomas took first in the triple jump (43-03.50), second in the long jump (22-02.50) and third in the high jump )5-10)
