Munger, Atkinson win Hermosa Beach 5k

More than 400 runners, walkers and skateboarders participated in this year’s HB 5000 in Hermosa Beach with Aaron Munger, 37, of Palos Verdes winning the 5K race with a time of 16 minutes, 48 seconds.
Fifteen-year-old Nicky Korba, of Manhattan Beach, held off James Miles, 28, of Redondo Beach to place second at 17:27, just five seconds ahead of Miles.
Manhattan Beach’s Alison Atkinson, 46, won the women’s division with a time of 18:45, besting Tamara Shear, 27, of Hermosa Beach (19:15) and 12-year-old Palos Verdes resident Mazzy Genovese (19:37)
Gavin McKiernan, 38, of Long Beach took top honors in the Baby Jogger 5K at 20:41, finishing ahead of Scott Sing, 42, of Torrance (22:08) and Chad Waldron, 32, of Manhattan Beach (23:40).
In the skateboard competition, Matt Olin, 36, of Hermosa Beach turned in the fastest time at 14:26, edging Jeff Robertson, 33, of Los Angeles (22:08). Walt Nakamura, 50, of Hawthorne finished third at 18:57.
Male’s winning their age division included: Matt Pogue (Hermosa Beach, 1-10, 21:16), Kevin Mauge (Hermosa Beach, 11-14, 17:37), Korba (15-18), Miles (19-29), Sam Dillman (Hermosa Beach, 30-34, 17:53), Munger (35-39), Naoki Kato (Torrance, 40-44, 17:41), Eric Huss (Glendora, 45-49, 17:56), Mark Silva (Manhattan Beach, 50-54, 18:59), Gary Nitti (Calabasas, 55-59, 20:35), Roger Bell (Redondo Beach, 60-64, 27:36), Marty Friedman (Manhattan Beach, 65-69, 21:57), Dick Cole (Manhattan Beach, 70-74, 26:49), Frank Greene (Torrance, 75-79, 27:46), Al Ray (Diamond Bar, 80-99, 33:01).
Female age division winners were: Mia Minestrella (Redondo Beach, 1-10, 23:54), Genovese (11-14), Jasmine Tyrone (Redondo Beach, 15-18, 26:26), Shear (19-29), Cambria Wu (Torrance, 30-34, 19:50), Martha Peck (Redondo Beach, 35-39, 20:36), Shawnee Huss (Glendora, 40-44, 23:29), Atkinson (45-49), Kelly Rainey (Redondo Beach, 50-54, 25:53), Marian Drahnak (Hermosa Beach, 55-59, 26:12), Monyean Acuna (Hermosa Beach, 60-64, 29:40) and Sue Reinhardt (Rancho Palos Verdes, 65-69, 26:54).
Kids winning their age categories included: Isabelle Tholan (3, Palos Verdes), Cameron Huss (4, Glendora), Patrick Behan (5, Hermosa Beach), Luke Kershaw (6, Hermosa Beach), Alysa Whelchel (7, Torrance), Thomas Pogue (8, Hermosa Beach), Alex Mainvielle (9, Torrance), Piper Newton (10, Hermosa Beach) and Zack Paulson (11-12, Redondo Beach).
