Hermosa Beach About Town

Fourth of July enforcement

As in years past, Hermosa Beach will have extra law enforcement on hand and stepped-up fines for this Fourth of July. Along with every available officer in the Hermosa Beach Police Department, more than 50 extra police officers and county fire officials will be stationed in Hermosa throughout the day, the city said in a statement. These officers will target common violations for the day, including public intoxication and minors possessing alcohol. Fines for the day are boosted to a minimum of $500, not including court fees. Law enforcement will also be enforcing the city’s “Social Host” ordinance, which imposes liability on the owners of homes where raucous parties take place, even in the case of kids doing so without their parents’ consent. A first offense under the ordinance carries a $2,500 fine.

After several years of increases in problematic behavior on the holiday, the past several years have seen a decline in arrests and incidents, which the city attributes to the stepped-up enforcement.

Local musician plays PV concerts
The Kevin Sousa Band will begin its summer residency at Terranea Resort this Saturday. The concerts, which will take place at Nelson’s overlooking the cliffs, begin June 30 and last through Sept. 15. The shows will also feature several Hermosa musicians as openers, including the Kira Lingman Band, Barley, and Chris Shaw. Shows begin at 6 p.m. and are free.
