Hermosa Beach About Town

City celebrates ‘La La Land’

Hermosa Beach will honor its place in jazz and the award-winning movie “La La Land” next week with a series of events and live musical performances. Between Wednesday and Saturday next week, the vintage streetlights mounted on the pier for the scene in which star Ryan Gosling sang “City of Stars” will be temporarily re-installed. Wednesday through Friday will feature a special performance at the Lighthouse Cafe on Pier Plaza from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to coincide with the sunset hour. Then on Saturday, Pier Plaza will host a performance by singer Lou Giovanetti and the You Can Dance studio from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Following the performance, the city will screen “La La Land” on the sand south of the pier. The screening is free and moviegoers may bring food, but snacks will also be available for purchase.

Fine Arts Festival

The Hermosa Fine Arts Festival will take place this weekend on the lawn surrounding the community center. It will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Artists, including exhibitions from students, will display their work in booths. There will also be activities for children.

Community First meeting

Councilmember Hany Fangary will host his monthly “Community First” meeting this Saturday at 2 p.m. in City Council Chambers. The meeting is an opportunity for residents to ask questions and discuss issues in Hermosa and the broader South Bay.
