Hermosa Beach About Town

Toy drive wrapping party

The wrapping party for the 27th annual Beach Cities Toy Drive will take place in the gym at the Hermosa Beach Community Center this Saturday morning. Each year, the toy drive collects presents at police and fire stations for the month leading up to Christmas. Local businesses get involved, including Hermosa Cyclery, which has donated hundreds of bikes over the years. Volunteers then gather the Saturday before Christmas for what has become one of the South Bay’s cheeriest holiday events, a wrapping party that alternates between Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. Tables and supplies will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring tape, scissors, and ribbon. The wrapping begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until all the presents are ready.

Menorah Lighting

The South Bay’s original Community Chanukah Celebration will once again take place at the Hermosa Pier this weekend with the annual menorah lighting. In the early ‘90s, Hermosa became the site of the South Bay’s original celebration of the Jewish Festival of Lights, and continues the tradition this Sunday, the first night of Chanukah this year. Along with the lighting of an extra-large menorah, don’t miss the latkes. The celebration runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
