Folks ignoring the law

“Too many people in the Pier area are ignoring the law,” Hermosa Beach Police Chief Paul LeBaron told the city council earlier this month. He said alcohol-related behavior has been keeping his officers busy with arrests and citations. LeBaron stressed that increased enforcement in this area will be maintained.

He also related an incident in which a thief spotted a high-end bicycle on a second-story balcony, climbed up, lowered the bike over the railing to the ground, and rode off.

Thefts are on the rise, the chief said. He advised that belongings be locked safely to deter criminals.

One-way street webinar set

A one-hour, community meeting webinar to gauge beach residents’ views on converting 26th Street to one way, heading west, is set for Nov. 3 starting at 6 p.m.

The proposal is part of the Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan, developed to deal with congestion around the renovated Vista School. Conversion of 26th Street to one-way will require a petition of support from 26th St. residents. If approved, the project would be implemented soon, and would cost an estimated $ 4,200.

According to the plan’s description, “This roadway is very narrow, and with added traffic volume from the school, it will be very difficult to function as two-way with parking on both sides of the street. Converting to one-way would allow parking on both sides with sufficient space for reasonable vehicle circulation. Two-way access would be maintained on Morningside Drive, between Gould Avenue and 26th Street, to preserve alley access.”

Advance registration for the webinar is required at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_dBe6aOHNQleCnIgbrcWLEQ. ER
