Hermosa Beach Police Beat

Dog foils burglary attempt

An apparent burglary attempt at a South Hermosa residence last month came to an end when the suspect fled after hearing the barking of a dog belonging to the potential victim. The incident occurred early in the morning of April 26 at a home in the 500 block of Hermosa Avenue, according to police reports. The suspect had attempted to force open a storage unit on the side of the victim’s residence.

Missing gun

A handgun that may have disappeared as long as six months ago was reported missing last month from a south Hermosa residence. The weapon was formerly inside a trailer at the mobile home park on 10th Street west of PCH and belonged to one of the residents, who left the park to enter hospice care, according to police reports. Police believe that the gun went missing sometime between Dec. 6, 2017 and Jan. 16.

Stolen parking pass

It’s often said that parking is tough to come by in Hermosa, and apparently, people are willing to steal for it: a thief broke into a car last month and stole a city-issued parking pass. The pass was taken from a vehicle parked in the 2200 block of Hermosa Avenue and occurred sometime between the afternoon of April 20 and the morning of April 23, according to police reports. The thief punched the lock of car door to gain access. It was not immediately clear whether anything else was taken.
