Melee on Pier Ave.
A large dance event at 705 Pier Ave. led to a fight involving multiple subjects at about 1:40 a.m. Sept. 30, police said. Police officers saturating downtown as part of a stepped up law enforcement effort were able to help break up the melee, which was both inside and outside the establishment, said Sgt. Bob Higgins. One man claimed to have been stabbed but was uncooperative with authorities, Higgins said.
Attempted Car Jacking
A man and woman were arrested and charged with attempted car-jacking after a driver pumping gas at the Arco on Pacific Coast Highway repelled them from entering his car, police said.
The man was pumping gas into his car on Saturday at about 4:15 p.m. when a man tried to get into his backseat, said Det. Mick Gaglia. After pushing him away, a female tried to get into the car and the driver repelled her, Gaglia said. No weapons were used.
After the two suspects fled on foot, they were found and arrested in the 1100 block of the Green Belt, Gaglia said.
Assaulting crimes
A man struck another man, knocking him to the ground in the 1 block of 13th Court on Sept. 28 at 2:17 a.m., police said. After knocking him to the ground, the assailant kicked the man while he was on the ground, police said.
A man was assaulted in the 1100 block of Hermosa Avenue Sept. 28 at about 2:50 a.m., police said. He suffered a lacerated lip and broken tooth, police said. The victim identified the assailant at the scene, but the suspect was no taken into custody pending further investigation, police said.
Two men fought in the 1000 block of Loma Drive at about 2 p.m. Sept. 23, with one kicking the other in the head, police said.
Sexual assault
A woman was pushed into her house by an unknown man, causing her to fall backward on the floor on Sept. 23 at about 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Lyndon Street. The woman managed to fight him off , who fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.
Burglaries
Cash and checks were stolen from an unoccupied residence in the 1200 block of 1st Place at about 9:30 a.m. Sept. 21. The thief entered through an open window, police said.
A laptop was stolen from a residence in the 1100 block of 2nd Street on Sept. 20 at about 5:30 p.m. The thief entered through the front door, which was unlocked, and proceeded to take the laptop from an upstairs bedroom, police said.
