The Hermosa Beach Police Department is advising residents to lock their vehicles and not leave valuable items in plain sight.
Det. Mick Gaglia said there has been a recent rash of thefts from inside vehicles throughout the city. He advised residents to removed their GPS devices as well as the cord because thieves see the cord and assume the GPS device is in the center console or glove compartment.
Gaglia also said residents with open vehicles, such as jeeps or convertibles, run the risk of having their parking pass stolen. No matter the vehicle, Gaglia said IPads or other valuables should not be left inside a car where a passerby can see it.
“We have opportunists who walk down the street and check cars to see if they are unlocked,” Gaglia said.
Last week, an IPad was stolen from a vehicle in the 1100 block of 20th Street, and in the 100 block of Ardmore Avenue a woman found a man ransacking her car at about 7:30 in the evening. He fled upon seeing her.
