Hermosa Beach to get pot vote, Tesla patrol car

An initiative petition authorizing retail sales of cannabis products in Hermosa Beach has qualified for the Nov. 8 election. The initiative, sponsored by resident Colton Chacker, collected more than the required 1,650 signatures, according to the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters.
The city council recently formed an advisory committee to study the city’s response to the initiative.
“We have our advisory group in the process of working through whether they want to recommend to us an alternative ordinance [to the initiative measure]. My understanding is they are going to prepare at some level of detail an alternative ballot measure for us,” Councilmember Justin Massey said at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
In other business, the council approved the purchase of five replacement police vehicles at a cost of $247,668,61, which includes painting and outfitting with appropriate equipment.
The purchases include a 2022 Ford Police Interceptor utility hybrid; a 2022 Tesla model Y; a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse; and new Honda Accord hybrid and Subaru Outback.
The hybrid vehicles are “aligned with the city’s clean-fleet goals,” according to the city staff report. ER
