The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club will celebrate 94 years this Saturday of Christmas tree lots, St. Patrick’s Day parades, Hermosa Fiestas, Tastes at the Beach and other community fundraisers. The club donates its proceeds each year to student scholarships, local nonprofits and civic projects such as the 9-11 Memorial, Handprint Wall, and the Greenbelt Fitness Stations.

The service club was founded in 1926 and built the Kiwanis Youth Hall on Valley Drive in 1957.

The club’s Student Leadership Programs (SLP’s) include the Builders Club at Hermosa Valley School; Key Clubs at Mira Costa and Redondo Union High Schools; Circle K International at El Camino College and the Aktion Club, which works with adults with disabilities.

The club meets on the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of the month for lunch at noon at the Youth Hall at 2515 Valley Drive. Evening meetings are at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. Persons interested in joining the club are encouraged to attend any of the meetings.
