Beatles opened for him

That’s right, when Chris Montez and Tommy Roe toured Europe in 1963 their opening act was The Beatles. Montez (“Call Me,” “Let’s Dance”) performs at 8 p.m. in Marsee Auditorium at El Camino College, Crenshaw and Redondo Beach boulevards, Torrance. Montez grew up in Hawthorne, and even attended El Camino. A preview of the upcoming documentary, “The Chris Montez Story,” will screen, and the band Help Light makes their debut performance. Isle of Lucy

Scandal in Scandinavia

“The Night of the Tribades,” by playwright Per Olov Enquist, is being presented by the California Repertory Company tonight through Dec. 11 in the Royal Theater aboard The Queen Mary, 1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach. Performances, Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. with 2 p.m. Saturday matinees. Description: “Set in a rotting Renaissance theater, ‘Tribades’ explores notorious Scandinavian playwright August Strindberg’s decaying personal life as it explodes onstage when the ultimate chauvinist is subjugated by his wife’s lesbian ecstasy.” Tickets, $20 general; $15 students, seniors, and military. Crisis in Asia

LiNK (or Liberty in North Korea) presents “Hiding,” a 30-minute documentary that highlights what life in hiding is really like in North Korea for its population. There’s a screening at 7 p.m. in the Torrance First Presbyterian Church, 1880 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance, and also, on Sunday, there are two more: at 12 p.m. in the One Family Chapel, 425 W. Hip hop to 705

Arkansas hip hop artist Hunter Beard is joined by New Kingdom, Hafsa Khan and Jon Harper tonight at Club 705 in a hip hop, blues, reggae show benefiting Breast Cancer Research. $10 cover. 8 p.m.  This will be the first local show for Beard, who recently moved to Hermosa and recently “stole the show” at the Key Club in Hollywood, according to one reviewer.
