Legendary Cousteau, Meistrell families partner to help save the oceans, and the planet

Planning for the next generation

Today, Evans, his childhood dive buddy Robbie and Cousteau are in discussions to add a Force Fin to the Jean-Michel Cousteau/Body Glove collection.

“I think our partnership will be a success, both financially and for the environment. We’ve got the legendary Cousteau name and the legendary – in our own minds — Meistrell name,” said Robbie Meistrell who, like Jean-Michel, was a reluctant heir to a legacy both are now committed to carrying far beyond what their fathers could have ever imagined.

Meistrell said the Jean-Michel Cousteau/Body Glove wetsuits will be introduced at the annual DEMA (Diving Equipment and Marketing Association) show at Las Vegas in November and will begin sales in early 2013. Their design will incorporate Cousteau’s signature light blue top and dark bottom, a reverse reflection of the protective dark top and light bottom of most marine life.

Proceeds will be used to further Ocean Future’s many marine education endeavors.

“My dad used to say you protect what you love,” Cousteau said. “But in urging him to focus on education, I’d say to him, ‘How can you protect what you don’t understand?’”

Jean-Michel Cousteau will sign his memoir, My Father, the Captain and talk to divers and surfers at Dive N’ Surf on Saturday February 18, noon to 4 p.m. Dive N’ Surf is located at 504 N. Broadway, Redondo Beach.
