Costa, Redondo golfers advance to CIF Individual Championship tournament

Qualifying with strong performances in the Bay League, Mira Costa’s David Kim and CJ Coleman joined Redondo’s Ryan Ree and Michael D’Angelo at the CIF Southern Individual Regional golf tournament on Monday at Skylinks Golf Club in Long Beach.

Kim shot a 4-under-par 68 to finish third and advance to the CIF Southern Section-Ford Individual Championship Tournament to be held Monday at Victoria Country Club in Riverside beginning at 8 a.m.

D’Angelo also advanced with a 74, the cutoff mark for the finals. He will join South Torrance’s Robin Kang and Tai Kuida and Bishop Montgomery’s Dean Billings, all who shot a 73, in the final.

Missing the cut were Ree (76) and Coleman (77).

Kim, Coleman, D’Angelo and Ree were coming off tough outings at the CIF Team Finals last Thursday where the challenging Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara proved too much for Mira Costa (387), which placed 13th, and Redondo (421) which finished 21st in the 21-team tournament. Santa Margarita won the team title with 364 strokes,

Kim shot a 1-over-par 71 while Coleman shot a 77 to lead the Mira Costa.

Ree, who was runner-up in the Bay League Individual Finals, shot a 73 while teammates Kenny Cole and D’Angelo shot 81, Lawrence Ree had an 86 and Ray Malazo shot an 89.
