Mucked up

Dear ER:

Thank you for featuring Jules Muck (“Painting the Town,” ER July 18, 2024). It’s true, Muck’s Riviera Village dining deck murals were celebratory ribbons, which made it so disappointing when they were replaced with the current ode to blandness.

Whose mouth?

Dear ER:

This whole “put your money where your mouth is” from Redondo Beach Councilmember Nils Nehrenheim and now from the sketchily appointed Mayor Jim Light is highly disrespectful (“Council sets bond for new police station, two fire stations,” ER July 18, 2024). If the city leadership learned how to play nice with businesses, we would have the sales tax money to pay for things instead of the City having to ask for a handout from residents. The no growth “leadership” has put us into this predicament. Let those who want to maintain a small quaint and quiet beach town like Mayor Light, and Councilmembers Nehrenheim, Zein Obagi and Todd Lowenstein put their money where their mouth is? How about that?

The last time

Dear ER:

I am a card-carrying cheapskate who will be supporting the City of Redondo Beach bond measures on November 5 (“Council sets bond for new police station, two fire stations, ER July 18, 2024). Despite my opinion that the City Council majority (especially Todd Loewenstein and Nils Nehrenheim) has done a horrific job managing Redondo’s finances, I support our first responders and the police and fire department repairs are needed, so I will vote yes while definitely hoping we have more competent city council majority going forward. I will also happily vote yes for our schools’ and BCHD bonds. Redondo’s award-winning schools, plus the nationally recognized BCHD have helped our property values grow. Beach town charm is not free. I voted for Bill Brand’s slow growth, and Brand Army delivered in spades. Therefore, I feel I should vote yes on this bond as it is an investment in our community and I believe all bonds will pay for themselves in continued appreciating property values. But on a go-forward basis, I will be less inclined to vote for militant slow/no growth, as I did not expect the costs to be so steep.

Reluctant support

Dear ER:

Why should the residents bear the cost for the selfish motives and negligent policies of the NIMBY leadership led by former Mayor Bill Brand, current Mayor Jim Light, and councilmembers Nils Nehrenheim, and Todd Loewenstein? Residents need to stay informed  (“Council sets bond for new police station, two fire stations,” ER July 18, 2024). Then again, maybe they are willing to shoulder the burden. Time will tell. I will vote for the City of Redondo Beach bond on November 5 because our service organizations need it. What the city does not need anymore is leadership that blocks growth, unity, and profitability.

Voter solution

Dear ER:

I resent any Redondo elected official telling the public to, “put their money where their mouth is.” It is elected officials who got us into this mess (“Council sets bond for new police station, two fire stations,” ER July 18, 2024). For the last decade their failed policies have failed the public. In March 2025 the voters of will throw out the failed politicians.
