Los Angeles pair rob Ulta Beauty, latest in a string

Two young suspects who allegedly robbed a beauty supply store in the South Bay Galleria Sunday were taken into custody the same day near downtown Los Angeles, police said.

The robbery occurred just after 2 p.m. when the two 18-year-olds walked into Ulta Beauty and left with an estimated $6,700 worth of merchandise in black trash bags.

It was the second such robbery at the store in a month.

Employees called police and recorded video of the male and female driving away.

Redondo Beach Police caught up to the silver sedan as it headed to L.A.

Los Angeles police stopped the car at Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, where Deon Donnell Paige and Jamonnie Leeshawn Murphy were arrested. They were later released on bond from the Redondo Beach jail.

The pair were found in possession of $1,800 in merchandise police say was stolen earlier in the day from a business in Torrance. In addition, Paige and Murphy are believed to be connected to a similar robbery at Sephora in Cerritos May 28.

The suspects are also believed to be responsible for prior thefts from retail businesses in Redondo Beach.

The robberies are part of a trend in “Organized Retail Theft,” as described by RBPD Lt. Fabian Saucedo. “It’s been happening around L.A. County. (Beauty products) are easy to get rid of and sell.”

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will consider felony charges against Paige and Murphy for the Ulta Beauty incident. ER
