Two armed robbery suspects were arrested on Sunday after a three-hour standoff with police, during which they were barricaded inside Pier 1 Imports at 1800 Rosecrans Ave. in Manhattan Beach.
The two Hawthorne men, Edwin Davis, 25, and Deangelo Cal, 23, allegedly entered through the store’s back door carrying a gun and a knife and held the store manager hostage while demanding money, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department. The five other employees working at the time were able to flee the scene.
After being called to the scene just after 7 p.m., officers evacuated adjacent businesses and surrounded the store’s perimeter, preventing the suspects from leaving the building without being contacted, police said. The store was closing at 7 p.m.
The store manager was released 25 minutes into the incident with no reported injuries, but the suspects remained inside the building.

Crisis negotiators called the store to communicate with the suspects. “We eventually convinced them to come out and surrender to the officers outside,” said Manhattan Beach Lieutenant Andy Harrod. The suspects surrendered at around 10:20 p.m., exiting the store with their arms raised over their heads.
There were no reported injuries, Harrod said.
The arrests were a collaborative effort between Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne and Los Angeles police departments, said Manhattan Beach Officer Stephanie Martin.
The suspects were transported to the Manhattan Beach Police Department and booked on kidnapping and robbery charges.
